This is a rare stone skullcracker war club for use by horseback from the Plains Native American Indians dating from 1500 to 1800 and from the Jeff Rickets collection. The Indian Wars era piece shows a hand chipped bi-point hardstone war club head which would have been held onto the haft handle with a wrapping of parfleche rawhide. The surface has remnants of old red ocher mineral pigment paint. The head has a darkened in color from age. These were used by the Northern Plains and Sioux. They were attached to a long haft handle to use on horseback creating immense force. It is in excellent condition with no major breaks and a nice even honest patina throughout.
